Authorities have confirmed that Daniela Vargas, the 22-year-old ‘Dreamer’ who was detained by ICE officials after she left a press conference on immigration rights, will be released on Friday. When she was taken into custody, Vargas had just spoken at a Jackson, Mississippi rally. Vargas is reportedly in the act of renewing her Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals application. Vargas's lawyers were allegedly told by ICE that agents were planning to pursue immediate deportation without first allowing Vargas a court hearing. The executive director of the Mississippi Immigrant Rights Alliance, Bill Chandler, said the change in decision was likely caused by media reports about Vargas's detainment: “I think the combination of the community pressure, the very broad pressure, not only from within the United States but from outside of the United States as well, on this case, contributed to the pressure that got her released.”
