Gay-marriage advocates are playing offense in the courthouse this week. Just yesterday, four couples filed a suit in federal court against Idaho’s ban on same-sex marriages, and nine couples sued in a Denver district court to overturn Colorado’s constitutional ban. In Idaho, the defendant, Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter, asked for an immediate ruling, contending it was the state’s right to define marriage. “Common sense and a wealth of social-science data teach that children do best emotionally, socially, intellectually, and even economically when reared in an intact home by both biological parents,” Otter said. Currently, 17 states and the District of Columbia allow same-sex marriages.
