Thursday television shows are about to meet their nightmare—Fox announced Friday night that American Idol will move to Wednesdays and Thursdays when it returns in January. Although the series has comfortably dominated its Tuesday and Wednesday time slots for the past decade, the network is reportedly hoping to capitalize on the lucrative Thursday nights, which are big for advertisers hoping to target consumers just before the weekend. Wednesdays will now host the longer performance episode on Idol, while Thursdays will be the hour-long result night. Struggling sci-fi drama Fringe has been bumped from Thursdays to Fridays due to the new schedule and Glee will continue to air at 8 on Tuesdays. Idol's 10th season also includes newly announced format changes, such as challenging contestants to make music videos and perform choreographed dances and eliminating the Top 24 round, TV Guide revealed Thursday.
