An Indian Uber taxi driver was arrested Sunday on suspicion of rape after a 26-year-old female passenger said she was attacked during her ride in Delhi. Indian authorities arrested the driver in his hometown of Uttar Pradesh. Police also plan to take legal action against the U.S.-based taxi service for failing to do an adequate background check on the driver, Shiv Kumar Yadav, or provide a satellite location device on the vehicle. "Every violation by Uber will be evaluated and we will go for legal recourse," said Madhur Verma, deputy commissioner with the Delhi police. A number of physical and sexual assault allegations have been made against Uber drivers, and the company has often deflected responsibility. Uber most recently came under fire for a proposed smear campaign against journalists who investigated the company.
