Iran hanged a man convicted of spying for Israel and another man accused of belonging to an exiled opposition group. Ali-Akbar Siadat was convicted of passing military secrets to Mossad agents over the course of six years, or, officially, with “supporting the Zionist regime” and “spreading corruption on earth.” The second man hanged on Tuesday was Ali Saremi, who was convicted of supporting an exiled opposition group that the government accuses of organizing terrorist attacks in Iran from bases in Iraq and Europe. Amnesty International says Saremi spent 23 years in prison both under the rule of the Shah and after the Islamic Revolution.
