No doubt watching the uprisings across the Arab world, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki announced Saturday that he will not run for a third term in 2014. "Eight years is enough for him, in order to not convert to a dictatorship," an adviser said. Al-Maliki barely held onto his government last year after his party fell two seats short of the necessary number to declare a majority. He will leave power at a crucial time in Iraqi history and his successor will be the first person to lead the country without U.S. military assistance since Saddam Hussein. Al-Maliki said he wants to modify the country's constitution before he leaves office to limit future leaders to two terms as well. On Friday, Al-Maliki vowed to return half of his salary to the Iraqi government.
