Now we’re beginning to think they’ve just been courting controversy for the buzz. The eight-part miniseries The Kennedys was dropped from the History Channel, reportedly after the Kennedy family objected to less-than-flattering depictions of philandering and pill-popping by the former president, but The Hollywood Reporter, which obtained a copy of the show’s first episode, reports that it isn’t nearly as salacious as previously believed. The episode does include references to JFK’s drug use and womanizing, and depictions of Joe Kennedy Sr. as an ambitious hard-driving patriarch. But the actual show appears to differ significantly from the script circulating online that led a former JFK aide to call the show “malicious” and “vindictive”. The actual show is less scandalous and “more focused on moving along a compelling narrative,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
