ISIS confirmed Tuesday that Abu Ali al-Anbari, the former number two in the radical Islamic organization, was in fact the same person as Abu Alaa al-Afri. U.S. and Iraqi intelligence had formerly believed that these were two separate individuals, but as The Daily Beast senior editor Michael Weiss and Hassan Hassan reported in April, after al-Anbari's death, there was now sufficient biographical information to confirm their singular identity. Al-Anbari was killed during a U.S. special forces operation in late March.
