Al-Shabab militants from Somalia beheaded nine men in an overnight attack on a Kenyan village on Saturday, authorities said. The attack occurred in the village of Jima in Lamu County, not far from the site of a day-long battle between the group and security forces less than a week ago. Villagers said the attackers went from home to home rounding up non-Muslims before gathering their victims together and beheading them. “They were slaughtered like chickens, using knives,” one witness told Reuters. Al-Shabab has stepped up its attacks in Kenya after the country sent troops to Somalia in 2011. The latest attack came after members of the terrorist group, now considered the deadliest Islamist group in Africa, killed three Kenyan policemen after a fierce battle three days ago.
