Israel: We Did Not Cross the Line

Contradicting many news reports and humanitarian organizations, the Israel military has said it conducted the recent conflict in Gaza within the parameters of international law. The report states that the military made "an enormous effort" to not harm innocent civilians while rooting out Hamas fighters. The report concedes that a small number of mistakes did occur, but that they were "unavoidable and occur in all combat situations." The report also downplays the two most controversial incidents of the conflict: The bombing of a U.N. school and the massacre of a Palestinian doctor and his three daughters. Israel faced a great deal of criticism for using excessive force during the war, as up to 1,400 Palestinians were killed, while only 10 Israeli soldiers died. The U.N. is set to begin its own investigation into Israeli conduct during the conflict. It is unclear whether the military will cooperate.
