Israeli diplomats were airlifted out of their embassy in Egypt after thousands of Egyptians stormed the building, tearing down the flag and hurling documents form a balcony. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the incident, calling it a “gross violation of international norms” and asking the Egyptian government to help protect the embassy. Egyptian police did try to clear away the protesters, and the Egyptian deputy health minister says at least three people were killed and more than 1,000 injured in the ensuing clash. Thousands of Egyptians marched on the embassy from Tahrir Square, denouncing the deaths of several Egyptian border guards killed last month by Israeli troops pursuing militants they said crossed into Egypt.
