This won’t help peace talks. Israeli investigators are trying to figure out just how a Palestinian man was able to convince an Israeli soldier to accompany him to a Palestinian village where he was murdered. Nidal Omar, 42, confessed to killing 20-year-old Sgt. Tomer Hazan, with whom he worked at a sandwich shop, and stuffing his body in a water well, which he planned to use to barter for the release of his brother from an Israeli prison. At least six of Omar's brothers have also been arrested in connection to the crime. Hazan’s murder is being cited by right-wing politicians as proof that revived negotiations and talk of a Palestinian state are dangerous. “One does not make peace with terrorists who throw soldiers’ bodies into a hole in the ground,” one Israeli minister, said. “One fights them without mercy.”
