Tommaso, a four-year-old former stray, became the world's richest cat after inheriting more than $13 million from his former owner, a 94-year-old Italian widow of a successful builder. Under Italian law, animals cannot inherit directly, but they can be beneficiaries of a trustee. In Tommaso's case, the trustee is Stefania, a fellow cat lover. Tomasso's owner met her in a park, where her cat sometimes played with Tommaso. She is now keeping Tommaso at an undisclosed address outside Rome.
