Mitch McConnell: Massachusetts Key to Killing Health Bill
Mitch McConnell is a man of the people, and according to him, the people have spoken. Or screamed. On Fox News Sunday, McConnell calls the special election to fill Ted Kennedy’s seat between Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican Scott Brown in Massachussetts a “referendum” on Obama’s health-care bill, which, he says, the people clearly do not want.
Don’t Say ‘Teabagger’ in Front of Tucker Carlson
Think twice before using the “T” word in front of Tucker Carlson. The Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuvel went a little overboard in her references to “teabaggers” on This Week, at least according to co-panelist Carlson. Carlson, a contributor to The Daily Beast before launching his own Daily Caller, hasn’t seemed this irked since he sat down with a certain talk-show host from Comedy Central.
Bob Woodward: Disappointment in Obama Is 'Crap'
It’s been about a year since the inauguration of President Obama, and thus we see the inevitable look back at how he’s done on his promises. On Meet the Press, Bob Woodward had an usual choice of words to describe the criticism of Obama in his first year, citing a famed Ronald Reagan biographer who counted Reagan out one term too early.
Bush and Clinton: The New Odd Couple
It’s not every day you see these two side by side, but both George W. Bush and Bill Clinton appeared on nearly every Sunday show this week to talk Haiti. What do Obama's two predecessors think about folks like Rush Limbaugh and Keith Olbermann politicizing the earthquake in the country? They aren’t very happy about it. On State of the Union, Bill Clinton says that if he and Bush can work together on the issue others should put aside their differences as well.
Mary Matalin Defends Limbaugh from the Left
Bush and Clinton weren’t the only odd couple to sound off on Rush Limbaugh’s controversial comments politicizing the Haiti earthquake this week. On State of the Union, Mary Matalin got into yet another sparring match with her husband, James Carville, over the conservative radio host. Matalin turned the tables on the issue, attacking those on the left including Robert Gibbs (not to mention the man sitting right next to her) of distorting his comments.
The Massachusetts Senate Race in 20 Seconds
Not sure who’ll be the next senator from Massachusetts? Neither is The McLaughlin Group, though there are some unexpected answers from the host and Clarence Page. Those seeking more information may want to check out the most recent post from Nate Silver on the subject; Silver says there is “hope” for Coakley.
If This Came From Anyone Other Than Bob Schieffer…
Has America’s response to the earthquake in Haiti been more remarkable than its response to the 9/11 attacks? It sure has, says Bob Schieffer. The Face the Nation host has been closing his broadcast lately with folksy, nonpartisan commentaries, and while it would be easy to poke fun at them (cf. his recent piece on why we should all act more like dogs), his sincerity actually has power.
