Damian Torres-Botello, a member of the Jesuit order, came out publicly in a blog post on Friday morning with the full support and permission of his superiors. In an essay titled “This I Believe: Created in God’s Image," the Catholic scholastic—who is part of the same order as Pope Francis—wrote that defining himself "purely on what I am limits who I am and how I can be of service...I made a commitment to live the vows of consecrated chastity, poverty, and obedience because of my belief in Christ, the mission of the Church, and the people of God," he wrote. "I share my struggles openly just as I share my joys."
