Mel Gibson has found a savior. Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster says she hopes “to help him get through this dark moment,” in an exclusive interview with More magazine. The two met working on the 1994 film Maverick and more than 15 years later, they reunited for the upcoming movie The Beaver. Before tapes of the actor spewing threats, swears, and slurs at his ex Oksana Grigorieva hit the Internet this year, Foster told the magazine that Gibson was the "easiest, nicest person I've ever worked with … The second I met him, I said, 'I will love this man for the rest of my life.'” After the scandal, Foster stood by her co-star, explaining, “When you love a friend, you don't abandon them when they are struggling. Of course, Mel is an undeniably gifted actor and director, and The Beaver is one of his most powerful and moving performances. But more importantly, he is and has been a true and loyal friend.” The film stars Gibson as a CEO who saves himself from catatonic depression by talking through a beaver puppet. Foster, who plays his wife, says the movie is about “how close we all are to mental illness and what you have to give up in order to save yourself.”
