Once upon a time, it seemed we’d read this headline in the New York Post: Joe Torre will step down as the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers at the end of the season, and Don Mattingly, currently the team’s hitting coach, will replace him. Torre and Mattingly first worked together at the Yankees; then Mattingly followed Torre to the Dodgers in 2008. The Dodgers are wrapping up a disappointing season; their record is currently 72-75.
