A federal judge has intervened to stop a Florida law that would have placed tough new restrictions on the state’s abortion providers. U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle blocked the new measures late Thursday, just hours before they were to go into effect, saying the government does not have the right to indirectly interfere in abortions since they are legal. The law, enacted by Gov. Rick Scott earlier this year, would have prohibited organizations that provide abortions from getting any state funds and imposed new inspection requirements on abortion clinics.
