Remember all those fur backpacks? Kanye West's splashy debut as a fashion designer in 2011 was memorable -- even if it wasn't a hit with the critics.
But now, after just two seasons, WWD reports that West will not be showing in Paris again this season. His PR firm, Karla Otto, "declined to say whether the line was discontinued."
We could have guessed it: West dropped in for a visit at New York Fashion Week, appearing in the front row at Marchesa and Louise Goldin shows with KK on his arm. Surely, a designer working towards showtime wouldn't have the time to spend galavanting? (Recently, too, West made headlines for staging a full wardrobe intervention for his girlfriend).
Maybe it's a good thing for Kanye to take a season (or two) off from the fashion game. As The Daily Beast's Robin Givhan wrote of his Spring 2012 collection which was filled with fur and leather: "While the technical difficulties and aesthetic miscalculations were myriad, the collection’s gravest flaw was that it simply had no vision."
She noted at his first show, though, that West could barely hold it together, appearing to be sweaty and "as skittish as a rabbit."
“I’m so nervous,” West told reporters at the time. “I’m so scared. I’m so distracted.”
