THE Duchess of Cambridge has said she will sleep rough on the streets of London to raise awareness of the growing homeless problem in the capital for homeless charity Centrepoint.
British actress Lisa Maxwell, who is part of the Sleep Out campaign to raise awareness of the growing problem in London, said: “I work with Centrepoint and William’s our patron. We had a little do and they both came down.
“She asked me about sleeping out, so I said: ‘Next time I do it, you’re doing it with me. No excuses, he’s done it.’ She said: ‘You’re on’,” reports the UK Daily Mirror.
Prince William, who is a patron of the homeless charity Centrepoint like his mother Diana was before him, has already taken part in one sleep-out. William slept rough with other homeless people in the run-up to Christmas 2009, settling down next to wheelie bins close to Blackfriars Bridge. During the night, they almost got run over by a roadsweeper.
Latest figures show there has been a 20% increase in those sleeping rough in a year, as the UK recession bites.
