Doctors are reporting a bizarre surge in kids eating poisonous mini laundry-detergent packets, which have recently become a popular alternative to bulky liquid detergent bottles on supermarket shelves. Some 250 cases have been reported to poison-control centers this year, with symptoms ranging from nausea and breathing problems to more dangerous conditions. While doctors aren’t entirely sure why kids are wolfing down detergent packs, most believe they’re mistaking the brightly colored pods for candy.
