This is not how you want to be ringing in the new year. Knoxville police on Monday removed two white banners from an interstate overpass that said “'diversity’ is a code word for white genocide.” Charming. Police don’t know who printed the banners or tied them to an overpass, but the owners can have them back if they turn themselves in. Similar banners were displayed in Arkansas and Oregon, and flyers with the slogan were passed out at Eastern Kentucky University. The message is frequently used by white nationalist, and is generally attributed to Reagan appointee Bob Whittaker.
