Josh Beckett pitched the first no-hitter of the baseball season Sunday night, leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. It was a career-first for Beckett, who is off to an unexpectedly explosive start after he was discounted by many in baseball as an aging, rehab pitcher. Generally, pitchers tend to be superstitious about no-hitters and never acknowledge them as they are occurring. However, Beckett was atypically nonchalant. As each batter failed to get a hit off the 34-year-old pitcher, Beckett talked to his manager, Don Mattingly, and even the police officer sitting next to him on the bench about the possibility of a no-hitter. "If I threw one, great, if not I've got healthy kids and a healthy wife," Beckett said. "That's the main goal."
