The coronation ceremony for the new queen of the gays—otherwise known as Lady Gaga’s first New York City concert—took place Wednesday night at Radio City Music Hall. The first of four shows there, it sold out in minutes, and choice seats in the orchestra went as high as $3,000 a pair on ticket resale sites like Stub Hub and eBay. Next generation designers Prabal Gurung, Richard Chai, and Tory Burch all showed up, as did Donald Trump, Barbara Walters, Gayle King, and what appeared to be at least half the members of the David Barton gym in Chelsea. Still, the best sightings at the show were not of celebrities, but the fans, who in Gaga parlance are known as “little monsters.”

It’s a term of affection from the 23-year-old starlet on a quest for world domination, starting with all the kids who got treated like “freaks” and felt like “outsiders” in high school.
In homage to their queen, many wore sunglasses and their best Lady Gaga wigs. Others showed up in top hats and full tuxedos, accessorized with oversized bow ties and striped sailor pants. There were women in intergalactic headgear, boys wearing disco balls that dangled from the lanyards around their necks, and one bloke in a body suit that went from the top of his head down to his feet, and was covered with battery operated blue lights (think: Star Trek by way of Paris Is Burning).
The lady sang her mega-hit “Bad Romance,” and they all went nuts, their freak flags flying all over the place.
