For centuries, on the first of April people have pranked one another just for the lolz. Despite the fact that these pranks are rarely good or clever or funny, we continue to celebrate April Fool’s Day because of tradition. And it would appear that traditionally, the politically minded struggle way more than the rest of us in attempting to avoid being totally lame. Whether they’re playing a prank or using the (informal) holiday to make a dig at an ideological opponent, they usually fall flat. Herein lies the seven lamest political April Fool’s Day “jokes” of 2014.
Bill Clinton
Political April Fools’ Day began at 12:17 AM, when Bill Clinton spoofed his wife’s “Texts From Hillary Clinton” meme on Twitter. “I’m following my leader!” the tweet read, accompanied by a picture of the sunglasses-clad 42nd President holding a very large iPad.

The Democratic National Committee
This being a day that ends in “y,” the DNC sent out an email about the Affordable Care Act; and this being April Fool’s Day, the DNC made sure to phone in some humor.
For years, Republicans have been jumping up and down, breathlessly screaming that the Affordable Care Act would be a “disaster.”
Guess what?
APRIL FOOL‘S! The joke is on them.

Senator Ted Cruz
When Sen. Cruz appeared on Fox and Friends this morning, he was prepared to bring the lolz. Host Steve Doocey said he heard Cruz “may have recently gotten a tattoo. Cruz responded by saying he had been in Los Angeles recently, where he saw “street art” featuring his head photoshopped onto a heavily tattooed body.
“Politics is a strange thing. It inspired me. I’m very proud to stand with Winston Churchill. And I’ve gotta say, my wife was fairly astonished,” Cruz said as he rolled up the sleeve of his white shirt, revealing a depiction of Churchill, cigar-in-mouth. Cruz laughed and laughed.

Congressman Pete Sessions
"Unfortunately, the Administration’s latest #ObamaCare delay isn’t an April Fools joke,” Rep. Sessions (R-TX), a six-term incumbent who serves as chairman of the House Rules Committee, tweeted this morning, along with a meme of HHS Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius, saying “no, sir,” open enrollment wouldn’t be delayed beyond March 31st. “APRIL FOOLS!”

Congressman Glenn Thompson
Rep. Thompson (R-PA), a three-term incumbent and apparent Chuck Grassley wannabe, tweeted today that he was “On Floor sharing constituent frustration from a very expensive & mostly harmful #AprilFools prank #ObamaCare. Few winners & too many losers.”
