On the eve of the Tour de France, Lance Armstrong told the French newspaper Le Monde that it’s “impossible” to win the classic race without doping. “Because it’s a test of endurance, where oxygen is the determining factor,” he said. Armstrong, who has become a reviled figure in France after being stripped of his seven Tour titles, added that French champion Laurent Jalabert is “lying” about his own doping. “I didn’t invent doping, I just participated in the system.” The disgraced former champion made a number of non-racing comments, including a remark that former president Nicolas Sarkozy was “always cool with me.”
