Harvard professor and democratic theorist Lawrence Lessig is expected to announce Tuesday his plans to explore a protest bid for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination, The New York Times reports. Lessig, a Daily Beast contributor, said he will run if he can raise $1 million in small donations by Labor Day, focusing his campaign on railing against gerrymandering and restrictive voting laws. The professor is known in liberal circles for his activism as well as for a super PAC in 2014 that focused on electing Democratic and Republican candidates who supported empowering small donors in politics.
