The attorney for a St. Louis police officer who fatally shot a black youth on Wednesday said the officer welcomes any outside investigation into the incident. "We welcome any fact finder...who is looking at it through a factual lens, not a political lens," the lawyer, Brian Millikan told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Millikan said the officer is lucky to be alive, because he hesitated too long before he fired at the 18-year-old, who pointed a gun at him. The officer "did everything by the book." the attorney said. The medical examiner said the 18-year-old, Vonderrit Myers Jr., was killed by a gunshot to the right cheek and was shot six to seven times in the lower extremities. St. Louis is bracing for large protests this weekend in connection with the shooting.
