Libya’s national troops will soon “pull out” of Misrata, leaving local tribes to fight it out against the rebels who have made the city one of their strongholds, according to the country’s deputy foreign minister. It’s a big turning point for the conflict, given that Misrata has been under an intense siege by pro-Gaddafi forces for weeks. It also comes after two major developments in the U.S. involvement: Senator John McCain (R-AZ) just visited Misrata to call for more U.S. support, and President Obama approved the use of armed drones to defend the rebels. Meanwhile, NATO airstrikes returned with force to Tripoli.
