Libya’s resurgent insurgency scored a major victory Tuesday, as rebels captured the airport in the embattled town of Misrata from forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi. Government forces, which have laid siege to the town for weeks, fled the area, leaving celebrations in their wake, witnesses said. The victory is likely a testament to NATO air strikes as much as it is to the rebels: an increasingly aggressive strategy, including strikes on Gaddafi’s own compound in Tripoli, appears to be wearing down loyalist strength, giving the rebels a boost.
