Just three months ago, Lieberman wrote in support of a Medicare buy-in for people over the age of 55—the same provision that he now says has led him to join a Republican filibuster of the health-care bill. In a September interview with the Connecticut Post, Lieberman suggested a Medicare buy-in as an alternative to the public option. The Post summarized, “By allowing citizens who are not eligible for Medicare or Medicaid to buy in for a rate below the private market, the government can extend coverage to more of those who are currently uninsured," he said.
