There is no biting in soccer, a lesson Luis Suárez learned the hard way this week. The Liverpool striker has been banned for 10 games for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic on the arm during a match over the weekend. The standard penalty for violent conduct on the soccer field is a three-game ban, but an independent panel from England’s Football Association determined that Suárez deserved a harsher punishment for his egregious behavior, and so, unless he wins an appeal, he’ll be sitting out the rest of the season. This isn’t the first time Suárez has behaved badly on the field. He was forced to sit out eight games in 2011 for “racially abusing” a Manchester United player.
