A sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed in Baton Rouge while carrying out an investigation, authorities said Sunday. East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Deputy Shawn T. Anderson was rushed to the hospital late Saturday. Few details have been released on the circumstances of the shooting. Louisiana State Police spokesman Bryan Lee said Anderson was not responding to a call at the time. Another spokesman said Anderson was interviewing a suspect in a rape investigation at a strip-mall hair salon when he was shot. That suspect was shot and injured; the Baton Rouge Advocate reports the man was hospitalized and has not been identified. “Our hearts are broken as we grieve for one of our brothers,” Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said of Anderson’s death. Anderson joined the force in 1999, and he received a string of accolades for his service, even delivering a baby on the side of the road last year. He is the fourth law-enforcement officer to die in the line of duty in East Baton Rouge in the past eight months.
