Police said Sunday that a man who walked into his wife’s Ohio hospital room Saturday and shot her may have meant it as a mercy killing. “It seems to be slanting that way,” Akron police captain Dan Zampelli told reporters Sunday. “He wanted to take away her suffering.” Sixty-six-year-old John Wise walked into the hospital room and shot his wife, Barbara, in her bed. She remains at Akron General Medical Center in critical condition, and it is not yet known why she was admitted to the hospital’s intensive-care unit in the first place. Her husband will be arraigned on attempted-murder charges Monday.
