To say Ukrainians are unhappy with President Viktor Yanukovych's decision to cozy up to Russia rather than sign an agreement with the European Union might be an understatement. Hundreds of thousands of protestors chanting "get the thugs out" took to the streets of Kiev calling for Yanukovych to step down after he backed away from a deal that was to establish free trade and political allegiances with the EU on Friday. Hundreds of protesters attempted to storm the president's offices, and police beat them back. "The leaders must resign. We want Europe and freedom," one businessman said.
