The city of Cleveland mischaracterized the shooting of Tamir Rice in its court filing, the mayor said at a press conference. The filing placed blame on the 12-year-old for his death, saying his injuries "were directly and proximately caused by the failure of Plaintiffs' decedent to exercise due care to avoid injury." On Monday, Mayor Frank Johnson said “We recognized that in this case it was inappropriate" and apologized "for our poor use of words and our insensitivity." There will be an amended version of the city's response to Rice's family's lawsuit.
