The federal judge involved in the corruption case against Senator Rob Menendez rejected an attempt by his defense attorneys Monday to throw out the charges on the grounds that the senator is protected by the Speech or Debate clause of the Constitution. Menendez is being charged with exchanging a series of gifts to earn political influence.
