New York Mets star reliever Jeurys Familia was reportedly arrested and charged this week for a domestic-violence incident, NorthJersey.com reported on Tuesday. Familia, 27, who was recently featured in an anti-domestic violence organization’s ad campaign, was charged with “simple assault” for an incident that occurred Monday evening in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The police report identifies Familia as having caused “bodily injury to another,” with a scratch on the chest and bruise on the right cheek of the victim, who remains unnamed by authorities. “The matter was brought to our attention and we are monitoring the situation,” the Mets organization said in a statement. Familia made his debut for the team in 2012 after being drafted out of the Dominican Republic; he was an All-Star this season and led the National League with 51 saves.
