Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has broken out of prison, a little more than a year after he was captured by Mexican authorities following a 2001 escape. Guzman escaped through a mile-long tunnel dug below the maximum-security prison where he was incarcerated. (Eighteen prison workers are being interrogated.) Guzman was in charge of the Sinaloa Cartel cartel, which smuggled cocaine and other drugs into the U.S. The cartel’s work was so lucrative that Guzman was named one of Forbes’s richest people with a net worth of more than $1 billion.
