Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder apologized to Flint residents Tuesday for the water crisis that has left the city of nearly 100,000 people exposed to lead poisioning. “I am sorry and I will fix it,” Snyder said in his State of the State address. “Government failed you.” The governor has faced sharp criticism over his handling of Flint’s plight, which began when the city switched from Detroit’s water system to the Flint River to cut costs. “I’m sorry most of all that I let you down,” Snyder added, promising to seek $28 million in state funds to provide the city with more bottled water, health care, and improvements to the infrastructure. Earlier Tuesday, President Obama met with Flint Mayor Karen Weaver while the Environmental Protection Agency criticized officials for not acting soon enough to address the crisis.
