During last week’s Conservative Political Action Conference, Tea Party star Michele Bachmann accused the gay community of bullying the American people. In an interview with conservative radio host Lars Larson, the Republican congresswoman from Minnesota commented on Arizona's defunct SB 1062 bill, which would have allowed businesses to refuse service to gay individuals on religious grounds, stating “There's nothing about gays in there."
Bachmann went on, "I think the thing that is getting a little tiresome, the gay community, they have so bullied the American people, and they've so intimidated politicians. The politicians fear them, so that they think they get to dictate the agenda everywhere."
Controversial is too subtle a word to describe Bachmann’s particular blend of divine visions, extreme theories, and unrelenting distortions of reality. According to Politifact, no politician has been checked as often as Bachmann without saying at least something that's true, and the outgoing congresswoman is unique in that she has never earned a rating higher than false.
It’s been one year since we last took a look at Bachmann’s outrageous public statements. While the one-time presidential frontrunner gets less camera time these days, thankfully, she hasn’t changed her ways.
White Guilt Elected Obama
In an interview with Cal Thomas published last month, Bachmann implied that Obama won the presidency based on white guilt over past racial injustices, stating, “I think there was a cachet about having an African-American president because of guilt." While, that may have worked for Obama, Bachmann makes sure to point out the same won’t work for Hillary Clinton because, "people don't hold guilt for a woman.” It seems odd considering her own attempt to become the first female president when Bachmann commented “I don’t think there is a pent-up desire” for a woman president.
Obama Is Like a Crack Dealer
It’s not surprising that Bachmann holds these views considering she previously had no reservations about likening Obama to a crack cocaine dealer. In an interview published on the conservative website WorldNetDaily, Bachmann states, “I think the reason is because President Obama can’t wait to get Americans addicted to the crack cocaine of dependency on more government health care.”
John Kerry Supports War Against Israel
Her accusations only tend to get wackier from there. When John Kerry suggested that if Mideast peace talks collapse, Israel could face increasing economic boycotts or possibly a new Palestinian uprising, Bachmann was interviewed by Family Research Council head, Tony Perkins, when she claimed Kerry was actually calling for boycotts and violence against Israel. “At the same time while the United States is giving a free pass to Iran, our Secretary of State is rattling a saber and effectively calling for an economic war against our greatest ally Israel. It doesn’t make any sense.”
Obama Wants Iran to Have a Nuclear Bomb
In a similar distortion of facts, Bachmann appeared on The Lars Larson Show in November claiming Obama wants to allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons stating that Wendy Sherman, the State Department’s lead negotiator’s “goal is to make sure that Iran has full ability to continue to enrich uranium and continue to stockpile it." Bachmann concluded that, “for some unknown reason the Obama administration wants the last country in the world that should have a nuclear bomb to get one.”
Jewish Organizations Sell Out Israel
More recently, the congresswoman claimed American Jewish organizations are selling out on Israel in favor of the Obama administration. In a telephone interview with Perkins last month, Bachmann stated: “What has been shocking has been seeing and observing Jewish organizations who, it appears, have made it their priority to support the political priority and the political ambitions of the president over the best interests of Israel. They sold out Israel.” In the same interview she claimed Obama was fulfilling biblical prophecies and bringing about the End Times in pressuring Israel to “give up its land to terrorists” allied with Al Qaeda, which will lead to a “final war, destroying and reducing to rubble Israel.”
Obama Helps Al Qaeda, Leading to the End of Days
This wasn’t the first time Bachmann made similar claims about Al Qaeda. In an interview with Understanding the Times host Jan Markell in October, she accused Obama of giving aid to the terrorist organization and offered the invented circumstance as proof that we are living in the Last Days. Bachmann was referring to a decision by the Obama administration to allow vetted Syrian rebels not affiliated with terrorist groups to help resist chemical weapons attacks. Bachmann claimed that, “U.S. taxpayers, are now paying to give arms to terrorists including Al Qaeda.”
“This happened and as of today the United States is willingly, knowingly, intentionally sending arms to terrorists, now what this says to me, I’m a believer in Jesus Christ, as I look at the End Times scripture, this says to me that the leaf is on the fig tree and we are to understand the signs of the times, which is your ministry, we are to understand where we are in God’s end times history.”
“Rather than seeing this as a negative, we need to rejoice, Maranatha Come Lord Jesus, His day is at hand,” Bachmann continued. “When we see up is down and right is called wrong, when this is happening, we were told this; these days would be as the days of Noah.”
The Tea Party Is an Intellectual Movement
Her puzzling statements concerning up being down and right being wrong mirror her confused logic and make her recent claim at CPAC that the Tea Party movement “at its core is an intellectual movement” seem all the more absurd. “We are based on the greatest ideas ever conceived in the mind of man,” Bachmann said.
She concludes that just as America has survived much in its history, "We will survive Barack Obama, too."
