Who else saw this coming: Michelle Obama will appear on the cover of the March issue of Vogue. She’ll be the second first lady—after Hillary, of course—ever to do so; all the others, starting with Lou Hoover, have graced the inside pages. In Annie Leibovitz’ cover shot, Obama leans on a beige sofa at the Hay-Adams Hotel, wearing a magenta dress by the young designer Jason Wu, who designed her inaugural ball gown. In the accompanying article, the first lady tells Andre Leon Talley how she and her daughters are settling in at the White House. “I’m going to try to take them to school every morning—as much as I can,” she says. “But there’s also a measure of independence. And obviously there will be times I won’t be able to drop them off at all. I like to be a presence in my kids’ school. I want to know the teacher; I want to know the other parents.”
