At around 4 p.m. PT on Wednesday, a military jet from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma crashed into several homes in a California town near the Arizona border. Eight homes were evacuated, and three were destroyed by flames. The pilot ejected safely and was taken to the hospital. There were no reports of injuries on the ground. The aircraft was an AV-8B Harrier jet. According to the U.S. Marine Corps website, the jet can “hover like a helicopter, and then blast forward like a jet at near-supersonic speeds.”
