Next Tuesday's special election to fill Ted Kennedy's seat in the Senate has gone negative this week, and truckloads of crash are arriving from outside the state to fund new ads. The race between Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican Scott Brown, once thought to be merely a formality, has become the center of the national struggle over health care as the possibility of a Brown win could gum up the Democrats' plans for reform. In two hours of watching Good Morning America, Boston viewers can see at least a dozen ads, most of them negative. “If candidates can capitalize on current events, they can raise money on the Internet and use it tomorrow,’’ said one local campaign finance expert. “That creates a lot more volatility in terms of how quickly races can become competitive.’’
