A Mormon woman lobbying for the church to ordain women as priests was excommunicated on Monday. Kate Kelly, founder of Ordain Women, has been pushing for female inclusion in the church's all-male priesthood. She was notified of the decision of a Washington, D.C. disciplinary council, who tried her in absentia and convicted her of apostasy, via email. "Today is a tragic day for my family and me as we process the many ways this will impact us, both in this life and in the eternities," Kelly said. "I love the gospel and the courage of its people."
