The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said this week that it will be changing its policy of proxy baptisms, in what some say is an effort to crack down on the practice following a wave of negative press. A spokesman for the Mormon church, Michael Purdy, said in a written statement that they church is “committed to preventing the misguided practice of submitting Holocaust victims and prominent individuals for proxy baptism.” Helen Radkey, the whistle-blower who recently made the baptism records public, said she has been “effectively stopped” since her access has been denied. The Mormon church faced significant backlash when word spread a few weeks ago that the practice has been continuing.
