An Irving, Texas, student was suspended and taken into police custody after he brought a homemade clock to school. Ahmed Mohamed, 14, designed the clock using a circuit board and power supply wired to a digital display, which he put inside a pencil case. A teacher confiscated the clock and sent the teen to be questioned by his principal and a police officer. The student, who enjoys making homemade radios and repairing his go-kart, never claimed the device was anything but a clock, a police spokesman confirmed. But officers didn’t believe Mohamed and the principal threatened to expel him if he didn’t make a written statement, he said. He was handcuffed, taken to juvenile detention, and suspended for three days. Police are still investigating the case and said they may charge him with making a hoax bomb.
