Mystery solved! The man behind the shell corporation that gave $1 million to Mitt Romney's campaign before dissolving has been identified. He is Edward Conard, a former executive at Bain Capital, the private equity firm Romney helped start. Conard told Politico, which broke the story, "I am the individual who formed and funded W Spann LLC,” the company that formed, donated to Romney's PAC, and disappeared. "I did so after consulting prominent legal counsel regarding the transaction, and based on my understanding that the contribution would comply with applicable laws.” Conard says he will ask Romney's PAC to amend its reports so his donation is no longer anonymous.
