North Korea paraded Matthew Miller, the American it convicted of espionage this month, before a U.S. television crew on Thursday. The North Koreans made the move in what appeared to be a fresh effort to attract a high-level U.S. envoy to try to get Miller released. In footage shot by the AP, Miller, 25, a native of Bakersfield, California, who was given a sentence of six years’ hard labor, is seen wearing a gray prisoner’s smock and cap. In a brief interview about his current life, he described solitary confinement and eight-hour days of agricultural work. Miller is the second American serving a sentence of hard labor in the country. The other is Kenneth Bae, who is serving a 15-year term.
