On Wednesday, the U.S. Naval Academy charged three unnamed midshipmen football players with sexually assaulting a female midshipman at an off-campus party in Annapolis, Maryland, last year. The two students are charged with two violations of military justice code: one for rape, sexual assault, or sexual misconduct, and the other is for making a false official statement. The woman's attorney says her client woke up after drinking and learned the three players claimed to have sex with her. "Even if this case is successfully prosecuted, the larger problem remains: rape cases in the military are controlled by untrained and biased commanders whose career interests may be served by covering up incidents like this one," her attorney said in a statement.
